It is very very importent to make good preparation befor using fingerstones !! Take good time to prepare because it is last polish you dont want to ruin anything. I use chisel to make my fingerstones from a big rock, then i flatten them on both sides with Atoma 140, then i flatten useable side with 600 grit and up to final natural i used. You have to round all the conners and make sure that nothing sit lose on that small stones .
I was very curios about Thuri Y/G many say that they are the finest for razors .
I most admit that it is very fine and very good hone i love that very smooth feeling while honing.
Very genteel and fine stone super easy to use i feel like i cant make mistakes on it :)
The color of Y/G is very light that make it easier to se swarf from the razor but i feel like it is not faster then other Thuris.
So i made a little test :)
I took my favored razor J.A. Hellberg
Honed it on coticule then to Wakasa with a lot of slurry then washed Wakasa and did 60 laps just on water.
Then i switched to Thuri Y/G did 60 laps with slurry and 60 laps with water only
Here is microscope pictures of result
60X
200X
Then i took Wakasa again and did same 60 laps with slurry and 60 with water
Made pics again
60X
200X
Then after Wakasa i did Ozuku 60 laps with slurry and 60 with water
I got all my Hones that i wanted to test.
So time has come !
To call it test maybe is wrong, i just want to show sound, speed, smoothens, mud relies of these hones on video with scratch patterns of edge with microscope pictures.
This is not sharpness test !! And scratch patterns do not tell how good hone is and how is the shave from that hone, i will just like to give people an idea how these stones work.
So what i did that i made video of each stone honed with Kamisori Razor and Solingen western Razor
With mud and finished only with water with little pressure to give some scratch patterns from the stone. This is not how you hone a razor on this hones :)
You need to do it without pressure at all !

That one is the fines and the best finisher of all much finer then any of my western and Jnats it will remain my final finisher stone :) Super smooth and very hard like a mirror slurry is super nice if you can get it out of it :)
Others is not even in comparison of fines of this one !! It is ultimate finisher for razors
On the pictures you can see that i did not worked enough on that stone it have deep scratches from other finishers.
So fare very fast cutting, slurry get black very easy, grit rate is the finest of all my Western Nats ! It is very hard stone glass like. But not harder then Arkansas or Turkish but very close !

By request of Yoshikane or Shigefusa users i made video how to make or maintain kasumi finish on double beveled knifes without Shinogi line. There is no Shinogi line on thise knives on purpose So dont try to make one !!!
Your knife will preform much better without Shinogi line and with only Hamugiriba edge.
It will prevent crunching or wedging in your food !
After i read Hides blog about Shigefusa stones.
http://hides-export.blogspot.com/2011/04/shigefusa-and-his-whetstones.html
I was very excited and asked my soars that sold that stone to Shigefusa to get one similar for me :)
So i just got it today :)
It is Ohira Range suita mine is without toxic lines or inclusions and i can not feel any lines on it !
I just try it out on my kasumi Moritaka, that stone is amazing i am bit surprised that it is so hard i thought it was much more softer stone but its not , it is very very fast as you can see it is only black swarf on the stone without any slurry. Finish is like on Shigefusa knifes :)
Now i have a stone i can relate to when i peak some stones and finger-stones for Shigefusa knifes !!
